The Salsa event was a huge success. We sold most of the food, everyone danced, the salsa band brought a lively energy as always, and most importantly, it was a great opportunity to share our work with the Calarts community and get some feedback on our projects. Since my project with Melis requires people's news, we left out a table with strips of paper for individuals to write down news that is happening in their lives. Reading through the answers, I found so much sincerity. It was a mix of excitement about finishing films or babies being born as well as people struggling with loneliness, college debt, and passing of loved ones. It reminded me that news is everything. News is all of the good and the bad. It was very inspiring and I cannot wait to do this in Cuba.
