Josh Lowenstein
Assignment 1
Questions:
Why does this program primarily focus on sculpture?
Do community members who do not directly make the installations have any say in the types or style of these works?
Were there any community members who objected to these projects?
Are there any psychological or emotional themes that these pieces are influenced by? (They seem to mainly derive from sociopolitical issues)
How effective are these projects to truly "find a community's identity?"
General Thoughts:
Having groups like "Culture In Action" is a very effective way to bring a community together.
In addition, these works that address various political issues are useful in informing the public and provoking political dialect.
It is important to note the fact that this program urges to keep design professionals out because the projects get people who may not think in a very design-oriented way involved.
The art seems to mainly address social and political issues of the current era.
- The "right" and "left" sides of society seem to view various works quite differently, which can make the composition of these installations rather difficult.
